Pete the Cat Saves Christmas

Part of one of our last days of 2013 was spent with our beloved Pete the Cat! These stories are wonderful, funny, and carry a meaningful message.  The link below is to the Pete the Cat page where your child can listen to the songs from the books for free.  The one we did today was Pete the Cat Saves Christmas.

Happy Holidays!

Earth Day

We celebrated Earth Day today in Kindergarten!  We read Earth Day books, watched a short video on the history of Earth Day, learned the terms "reduce, reuse, and recyle" and sorted items into the three groups, did a Scholastic News, and a fun art/music project to end the day.

We listened to the song "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong and the kids got to use their watercolors to paint what the song made them think of.  These have been mounted on black paper and are beautifully hanging in our classroom!

December Pictures

Blogger is finally up and running! I apologize for the major hiatus in my posts.  Please enjoy some pictures from the end of 2nd quarter.

Playing "Letter Detectives" with magnetic letters and holiday words.
Sequencing the story of There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Bell
Our parent gifts ready to be wrapped!
Our class book exchange- each student brought in a used book wrapped and signed on the inside so the friend who received it can always remember!  This was super fun. Students drew numbers and got to open the book that matched his/her number.
My beautiful gift card tree I received from some students in our class- thank you for making me feel so special! You all are the best.

Gingerbread Houses

Gingerbread houses- phase one.

Phase two: let the decorating begin!

It was so fun to see how differently the kids decorated their houses.  We have some future architects, artists, and interior designers in our room!

December Math

A couple pictures from math this week:
Roll a Gingerbread Man

Race to the North Pole- working on one-to-one correspondence (counting the correct number of places) and reading double digit numbers accurately.

Great games to play at home!

Upcoming! Gingerbread Houses

One of the most memorable things in our Kindergarten year is building and decorating our gingerbread houses.  A letter was sent home on Friday explaining what your child needs to bring. We will need volunteers to help facilitate this fun project- please let me know if you are interested! We will work on these the mornings of Thursday December 13th and Friday December 14th. Students will take these houses home on Friday the 14th.
