Kindergarten Homework Letter
Purpose: The purpose of homework in Kindergarten is to encourage responsibility and to practice/reinforce basic skills at home.
Format: Homework is in a calendar format with an activity for each night of the week Monday-Thursday (for a typical 5 day week of school). The calendar allows for you to work with your child at a pace that works best for him/her and your schedule. You are more than welcome to do the assigned activity of the day each day or do them all one on one night-whatever works best for you and your child.
Due Dates: Please help your child ensure that his/her homework packet is in the Take Home folder on Friday. I check homework each Friday for the assigned week. Your child will earn a sticker for completion each Friday for his/her sticker chart.
When will homework start? Your child will receive his/her first homework packet for September on Friday, August 31st. I will check the first week's assignment on Friday, September 7th.
Other forms of "homework:"
- Small-group reading books: Once we begin small reading groups, your child will be reading 2 leveled books to his/her level a week with me. These books will be sent home in a bag that will have a direciton sheet to go with it. More information to come!
- Monthly Book Clubs!: This is always optional but Book Club is FUN! :) Your child simply needs to record (or a parent record) the books he/she reads to or with an adult at home on the designated sheet that is sent home. I collect these on the last day of the month and for those who have completed their sheets, we have a lunch party in the room! The purpose of Book Club is to encourage a love of reading and reading at home consistently.
